Singapore River

Singapore River is an approximately 3.2 km long waterway that runs from Kim Seng Bridge to Marina Bay in the Centra Region. Singapore River has been the lifeline for Singapore for almost 200 years. The City of Singapore initially grew around the port at Singapore River as the commercial, trading and finance hub of Singapore. Development of Singapore River stared off from Boat Quay and eventually to Clarke Quay, Robertson Quay and even upper stream of the river later.

The heavy traffic and development along Singapore River brought pollution to the river. Singapore Government started the river clean-up campaign in the 1800s including clearing debris, rubbish and relocating most of the commercial activities.

Today, Singapore River service as a tourism spot for the locals and visitors with some iconic building such as Merlion, bridges, hotels, Parliament House, Singapore Flyer and the 3 Quays. It is also a venue for public events and activities. Caninghill Piers will have a river facing blocks that gives unblock river view to its future residents.
